An additional plea for Japan

I know I am just one member but please consider making that donation to the Intl. Red Cross.

It's a little personal I guess. I used to live and work in Japan, for about a year and have never found more kind & generous people.

Once I was sick and needed to be in the hospital for around  3 weeks, my japanese is not so hot and the nurses didn't speak english. But those ladies went to the effort of buying and english dictionary and really made every effort to communicate with a kind of freaked out westerner who was really ill. There was no rude indications of: why doesn't she learn OUR language, which sadly many countries do to foriegners. The Japanese had great compassion.

 Compassion is COOL.

I hope you don't mind my little story. There may be others here who have also been to 'Nippon'. I am certain they love it too. Can you make even a small donation?

Thanks for indulging my blog.

BINGING

Late-nite binge fest. Ouch!

The baby went to sleep long ago. Sewing finished and the house..cleaned- of sorts.

(Yeah -sometimes it looks about as good as Kara Tharce's apt. back on Caprica)

It's 11:00 p.m and I'm REALLY awake so what's any good BSG fan to do? Hit the DVD's

I decided to start from the beginning with the mini -series. The husband hits the sofa next to me but is

asleep in an hour. ( We can't blame him since his job has him up at 4:00AM.)

Late night is really the only time I can watch re-imagined BSG. I just can't have all the scary sounds of gun fire, and people yelling

'FRAK" at each other, and the dying screams around Serena, She's only 18 months. A wee bit young for all that. Yes?

So I managed to binge BSG epidoses until about 3:30 AM.

I payed for this morning when everyone got up for roll call at 6:30-7:00.

Need some frakkin' stems! Or another latte would do. :-)

It was worth it though. A bit of extra cake never hurt anyone.

Anyone else ever eat too much?

In memory of Robert Feero

My friends, it is with the greatest regret that I announce the passing of actor Robert Feero this morning, best known to Battlestar Galactica fans for his role as Bora the Borellian Nomen in the original series. Bob joined us on the Galacticruise 2008 & I know he had a wonderful time seeing the fans...and all of you who were there will remember his charm & wit. He was a helluva guy & I for one will miss him. I declare today Sunday February 27th, 2011 an official day of mourning for the Fan Club.

Battlestar Fan Club

I want to thank Dan Allen for giving me such a warm welcome back. Thanks Dan!

I think I mentioned in my email to everyone that I've been on a ship of light for the last two years or so & while the actual reasons are a lot duller than that, I think I'll just stick to the ship of light story.

Suffice to say that I am indeed back & ready to face the challenges that we will make for ourselves together.

I also want to second Dan's welcome of Jack Stauffer (Bojay from the original series) but also to welcome Terry Carter (the original Colonel Tigh from the original series).

Both of these gentlemen are wonderfully talented & great guys.

Speaking of challenges, since the site's reconstruction our first challenge has & will remain rebuilding membership.

So here is an incentive to all of you, your mission: Create your own Battlestar!

While we will roll the program out officially on March 1, 2011 with more details, the criteria is simple: to qualify for Battlestar status you must recruit 25 people that we can verify & you get to name your Battlestar, appoint your officers, get your own forum & design your own patch.

Each Battlestar will serve as a local chapter of the Fan Club.

Simple!

The various Battlestars will be empowered to go to local conventions, set up tables, recruit new members (there is no size limit to your crew), do community events & show everyone what Battlestar Galactica fans are all about.

So start revving up your engines, we have a plan!

May the Lords of Kobol bless our mission!

So say we all!

Hal Leonard Releases Battlestar Galactica Songbook

Cool New Piano Solo Folio Showcases Noted Composer Bear McCreary
MILWAUKEE – Variety called composer Bear McCreary’s score for Battlestar Galactica – the award-winning series on the Syfy channel from 2004-2009 – “the most innovative music on TV today,” and NPR said it “fits the action so perfectly, it’s almost devastating: (it’s) a sci-fi score like no other.” Hal Leonard Corporation is proud to publish the first-ever songbook featuring the music from the series.

McCreary himself was heavily involved in the creation of this special collection, personally translating his acclaimed, world music-infused orchestral score into fantastic piano solo arrangements. The intermediate to advanced-level songbook contains 19 selections in all, and as a bonus, also simplified versions of “Roslin and Adama” and “Wander My Friends.” There is a note from the Emmy-nominated McCreary, as well as a biography.

The music from Battlestar Galactica has a rabid following. No fewer than six soundtrack albums have been released to date, all selling well and enthusiastically praised by critics. There have also been several live concerts featuring the music; In 2008, more than 1,000 fans attended two sold-out shows at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, with some fans flying in from as far as England and Australia. Last summer, McCreary conducted the world premiere performance of the Battlestar Galactica Symphony, as part of the renowned Fimucite Film Music Festival in Tenerife, Spain. A ballet based on McCreary’s scores for the series premiered in 2009, performed by the dancers of the Theaterhagen in Hagen, Germany.

McCreary comments on the Hal Leonard Battlestar Galactica songbook, “At last, fans can now be a part of the musical process themselves and experience the score as I first did: with fingertips touching the ivories.”

A must for the show’s multitude of fans, the Battlestar Galactica Piano Solo folio (HL00313530, ISBN 978-1-61780-367-3) retails for $16.99 and is available at music stores nationwide, or through Music Dispatch (www.musicdispatch.com, 800-637-2852). ###

About Bear McCreary
Bear McCreary holds degrees in composition and recording arts from the prestigious Thornton School of Music at the University of  Southern California. However, he attributes his professional training to his mentor, the late film music legend Elmer Bernstein. By the age of 24, McCreary launched into pop culture with his groundbreaking score to Battlestar Galactica. McCreary’s other composing credits include Disney’s Step Up 3D, and several hit series, including The Walking Dead, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Caprica, The Cape and Eureka. McCreary’s swashbuckling score for Human Target featured the largest orchestra ever assembled for a television series in history, and earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Main Title Theme.
