HISTORY OF THE BFC

THE LEGACY OF THE BATTLESTAR GALACTICA FAN CLUB

On July 1, 2000, Shawn O'Donnell and Chris Feehan founded the Battlestar Galactica Fan Club (BFC), igniting a beacon of camaraderie and enthusiasm for fans of the iconic science fiction series. Originally, the site was a haven dedicated to the 1978 Battlestar Galactica original series, fostering a vibrant community where fans could share their passion, memories, and collectibles.

As the re-imagined series premiered in 2004, the BFC adeptly expanded its scope to embrace both the classic and the new series. This transition showcased the versatility and inclusiveness of the fan club, attracting a diverse array of enthusiasts from different generations. The BFC became a pivotal platform where fans could explore and celebrate the rich lore of Battlestar Galactica in all its forms.

A cornerstone of the BFC’s success was the unwavering support of Richard Hatch, who played Captain Apollo in the original series and Tom Zarek in the re-imagined series. Hatch’s engagement with the fan club brought immense credibility and a deep connection to the franchise. His frequent interactions with members and his advocacy for the fan community reinforced the BFC’s standing as the heart of Battlestar Galactica fandom.

Through the years, the BFC evolved, continually adapting to the changing landscape of fandom and technology. The club's online presence expanded, incorporating forums, social media, and virtual events that kept the community engaged and growing.

On August 1, 2018, a significant chapter in the BFC’s history was written. Shawn O'Donnell, the last founding father, passed the torch of presidency and ownership to a dynamic and passionate successor known as "DragonLady." This transition marked the beginning of a new era for the BFC. DragonLady's leadership and vision propelled the fan club to unprecedented heights. Under her guidance, the BFC saw an increase in membership, the introduction of innovative fan events, and a strengthened online presence that resonated with fans worldwide.

DragonLady's tenure was characterized by her dedication to preserving the legacy of both the original and re-imagined series while fostering an inclusive and forward-thinking community. Her efforts ensured that the BFC remained a thriving hub of fan activity, celebrating the enduring spirit of Battlestar Galactica and its loyal followers.

Today, the Battlestar Galactica Fan Club stands as a testament to the enduring power of fandom. From its humble beginnings to its current stature, the BFC continues to inspire, connect, and celebrate fans of the beloved series, honoring the legacy of its founders and the vibrant community that sustains it.
