Raven Milestone

12578035496?profile=original

Colonials,

I would like to personally thank each and everyone of our members and friends here at Battlestar Raven, for helping us reach a milestone of reach over 10,000 FB LIKES. WE could not have done it without each and everyone of your help! So please continue to share our page so we can do to the best of our ability, to keep helping spread the word about the our beloved BSG show and her legacy.

In honor of this milestone, is a new Facebook banner dedicated to her current members on the Raven, which by the way, was another milestone with 200 members. Just a less than a year ago, she had no more than between 9-10 credible members after the current crew roster list was purge when she was in dry-dock for maintenance and a change of Commmand took place. This is another blessing that all of us here at Battlestar Raven, are thankful for due to her current members and the wonderful friends we have made along the way, since she got out dry-dock and climb to the top. It is our sincere hope that she continue to prove her worth in the Field of Battle and that she may continue to not only grow in quantity but more IMPORTANTLY, IN QUALITY, which is the most important thing of all as a Battlestar Chapter!  HELP US reach that GOAL!

SO SAY WE ALL!

The Hammers New Viper Squadron Leader

12578040866?profile=original

Raven and Fellow Colonials,

The Hammers Squadron finally has a Squadron Leader that will hopefully get her off the ground and hitting the sky and joining the fight against the enemy as one of the ELITE Defenders of The Fleet aboard the Raven.  He is someone that has no problem getting things going when the tough gets going.  He is no stranger getting into a cockpit blasting the enemy into bits of pieces.  This person hails from the Minotaur Squadron.    As a Squadron Leader, I expect that person to lead by example, Communicate with the Command Staff and their fellow Squadron Leaders and members of their Squadron, and not afraid to do some work to get things done.  So may the Lords of Kobol guide The Hammers new Squadron Leader.

So without further ado, I would like to announce, that Ensign Shane "Ogre" Coble, has been appointed as The Hammers NEW Squadron Leader.   With his appointment as the new Squadron Leader of The Hammers, comes with his promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade, effective immediately on this day 8 August 2013.  Lt.Jg. Coble, The Hammers Squadron is now yours!

PLEASE JOIN ME IN CONGRATULATING LT.JG SHANE "OGRE" COBLE!!!!!!!!!!  SO SAY WE ALL!!!!!!!!!!

AAR from Space City Con

Well, what can I say, we certainly had a lot of fun at Space City Con for I am still tired as FRAK from the convention :-)  I was a little reluctant setting up a table at the con due to manning.  But the one person I did not expect came through for me was my husband (he is a non-science fiction fan but learning the ropes) .  He made sure I had some help at the convention for I had only one day turn around to breathe after doing Uncle Sam's bidding for two straight weeks.  And the crew and friends that were present there certainly came through for me.  So I would like to thank the following members of the Raven Family and Friends Circle that help man the Raven Table and that help the Raven out at the convention as a whole:

Raven Marine Paul "IceWorm" Oakley (Personal Security Detail assigned to me by the Raven Marine OIC)

Lt. Juan "Blindsword" Lopez ( CSO )

Raven Medic Jeanne Lopez

Members of the Raven Classic Viper Squadron:  The Blackstar Squadron (especially Greg Goodwin)

My own children especially my oldest one (Raven Marine Private Scorpion)  and a friend of his

Ensign Shane "Ogre" Coble- Minotaur 2 ( I hope I spelled his name right ) :-)

Melissa Pumarega

Space City Con had a lot of turn out and more than expected by the people running the convention.  They had so much turn out that they even ran out of printed tickets for people that pre-paid autographs, photos ops and amongst other things. So some of us ended up getting hand-written tickets which the staff made sure was honored.  They even ran out of badges that can be taken home as a souvenir from the convention that they ended up giving paper wrist band which a lot of people weren't too happy about.  I hope the Space City Con Staff will do something for those people that weren't so lucky to get the souveinir con badges.  IMHO, the Convention Center should have set aside those badges for people that had pre-paid it ahead of time.  It was the right and and only logical thing to do.

During the convention, I took a quick break to get my prepaid autographs tickets to pick them up at a later time. Melissa Pumarega was helping man the table.  When I came back, I notice our mother site banner design by Michael Scholer, was taken down and moved by two individuals promoting about job links.  I ask Melissa what happen to it. She said these two females just started setting up their table to the left of our table while a few minutes earlier, they were right across our table.  I ask the two females why they moved the banner.  They stated to me it fell.  But the banner was folded like the stand was moved so they can put their table.  I told both of them I don't believe them and ask them whether they have permission to be on that spot?  They did not answer me.  So a lightbulb lighted in my mind that these people do not have permission to be there.  I send for one of my people Ensign Shane "Ogre" Coble of the Raven Minotaur Squadron ( he is one of the volunteers at the convention).    When he came and I told him what happen, what happened after that was I really laugh inside and smiled.  Ensign Coble (Who is as tall as FRAK. I felt like an little Ewok standing beside him) came over to those two females little round table they brought with them and just pick it up and said to them "Maam, I need to move your table over here for you do not belong there!"  I guess the two females weren't able to say anything to him other than glare at us for they know they were wrong for doing that.  I thank Ensign Coble for fixing the problem for us right then and there and with authority LOL.  He stated to me he does not like anyone messing with his fleet or chapter.  So I just chuckled deep inside when I saw the reaction of those two females. They did not even stay there that long too.  I guess they were trying to get in for free.  There was no security posted at that entrance.

That same evening after the convention, I invited my whole crew on the Raven that can make it and treated them to dinner at Chili's Restaurant where we ended up joining the members of the 1701st Fleet commanded by Admiral Cody Glenn.  I just wanted to thank them for all the help they have given me so far at the convention.  We were also joined by members of the Blackstar Squadron towards the latter portion of the group dinner.  We still had a lot of fun and got the chance to take a group picture together.

Sunday, was a lot of fun.  We had the Raven Panel where we were joined by members of the Colonial Fleet and of course, the Raven First Classic Series, the Blackstar Squadron.  They panel was very informative and lots of information was pass along and got to know each and everyone of us in the group by those who were at the panel. After the panel, we had the Charity MechCorps Entertainment match between the crew of the Raven and the Browncoats.  I agreed to this match when we were approached because it was a fund raising dedicated to raising money to help kids read.  And I am a mother of three wonderful boys,so  I agreed to this and ask the Raven Crew if they want to have some fun.  And they all agreed.  So four of my people suited up.  Win or lose, we were going to have fun and help raise money for the kids charity.  It was 4 on 4.  So the game began.  The following individuals represented the Raven Group:

Lt. Juan "Blindsword" Lopez (representing the Command Staff)

Ensign Shane "Ogre" Coble (representing the viper Squadron Minotaur)

Cpl. Greg "Jubal" Goodwin of the Blackstar Squadron

And my middle son Abraham ( called little Raven)

I on the other hand along with the others that are not playing, watch from the sidelines. I started taking photos and video of the match while at the same time, we all cheered for everyone on the Raven.  Even though we lost the match, for a crew that has not played this kind of game, we did not do too bad.  In fact, it was a great game and everyone had a lot of fun.  We raise about $196.00 for the kids charity of which $42.00 was from the Raven Crew.  Everyone had a lot of fun that we were ask if we want to do a re-match with the Browncoats at another convention.  We all shook hands after that and had laughs together.  I think this was the loudest my voice has ever been cheering from the sideline LOL and laughing. Hey, it was so frakking loud in there that you really have to raise your voice to be heard heheheh.  But make no mistake, I know if our pilots was behind an actual viper pilot cockpit, they would reign supreme in the air ;-) :-)

But the best part about being in attendance at this convention for me was meeting two actors from Star Trek I have been wanting to meet:  Gowron and Martok  I had a chance to talk to Robert O'reilly on the last day for a little bit. Since I missed out on buying the combine photo op with Gowron and Martok with their Klingon Costume on,  I decided to approach his table to see if I can buy a photo op with him one on one right then and there.  So I approach  Robert O'reilly because he was my favorite Klingon out of the two even though I like both of them. I explained to him my situation and to my surprise, he just told me to just go on ahead and we will have a photo taken at no extra charge.  So upon hearing that, I was so happy I finally got to meet the infamous Klingon Chancellor Gowron after all this time and had a photo taken with him.  So that was a mission accomplished on my part.  After we got our photo taken together, we chatted for a little bit.  He ask me what branch of service I was in and I told him.  He told me that John Garman Hertzler (Martok) is an Air Force Military brat himself because his father served in the Air Force (he was a mechanic).  I was like WOW!   Robert O'Reilly was such a pleasant person to talk.  I really enjoyed talking to him because he really took his time out to do so.

The whole experience at convention as a whole I would say, was really fun.  From the very first day of the convention where my children got scared out of their wits inside the elevator when they encountered the loud and boisterous Klingon Group (the Klingon Group tease the heck out of them and I just laugh when my children told me), to doing the Raven Panel, being a part of the MechCorps Children Charity Event, meeting Gowron and Martok and to making new friends and gaining new members to the Raven Family and Friends Circle.  I would just say it was a really a blast just being able to hangout  with my Raven Crew and meeting some of them for the first time.  Hopefully, we get to do it again, somewhere and sometime in the near future.  I really enjoy interacting with the fans because like I said, without the fans and members, there is no Raven or little alone, the BFC Fan Club. If there is anything I have learned by the very person mentoring me here at BFC (Shawn O'Donnell) the fans are very important in the continuation of the legacy and spirit of BSG. Through them, the BSG memory lives on and gets pass down to the next generation of BSG Fans whether it be the Classic Series or the New Series.  As you can hear in the very beginning of the original BSG Series :

"There are those who believe........"

And that is true to this very day.  Stay tune for the photos from the event!

SO SAY WE ALL!

Colonials!

Hello everyone,

Again the week rolls around and I would have sent this message out a few days earlier, except that I was waiting to confirm some information about a few things.

Thanks to all of you on behalf of Sophie LaPorte, again she appreciates the support...I am sure that a lot of you might be  interested in her jewelry design (she had sent me the link just prior to her recent issues last week) & I wanted to share that with all of you...you can find the link to Nuku Hiva Designs here.

Some other news for those attending San Diego ComicCon...if you are looking for Richard Hatch, I certainly want to make sure you find him, his signing location/schedule is as follows:

Thursday: AA20 12PM-400PM

Friday:     AA10 10AM-230 PM

Saturday: AA10 10AM-230 PM

Sunday:   AA10 10AM-130 PM

Richard will also be conducting his 35th Anniversay panel on on Thursday & his actiing panel on Friday...when we have a firm confirmation of locations/times we will pass that on to everyone.

Now of course, it IS our weekly ritual...the Battlestar Galactica Hero of the week....always something of interest and anticipated I think.

This week out, the honor goes to a man who has a long history in television & film...he began his film career in 1945 actually.

12578036295?profile=original

As a matter of fact, here is his image from a 1950 film called "Stars In My Crown"...look familiar?

Here is another hint...he played Al Calavicci on Quantum Leap...another hint?

OK...How about John Cavil on Battlestar Galactica?

The Hero of Battlestar Galactica this week goes to Dean Stockwell!

So Say We All!

A NEW HOME FOR BATTLESTAR RAVEN

Colonials,

I just wanted to quickly let everyone know, as the eve of the Raven's first site launching approaches, the Raven is on its way migrating to her new and permanent home.  The current site she is on right now, was just her temporary home that I launch so I can give her an identity after I took Command of her August 1, 2012, in order to get her squared away.  Now that she is well on her way and proudly leading the way, I decided to give her a home much more fitting for her stature now in the Sci-fi Community.  A home deserving of her current designation as the Flagship Chapter of Battlestar Galactica Fan Club.  This site has been in the works on the side but due to my real life responsibilities, progress has been delayed.  But now, it is well on her way of being finished.  She has a large file and  I can only work on it at night or on my spare time. I try not to do anything relating to science fiction on the weekends because that is dedicated to me spending some quality time with my family.   I am hoping I can launch her new home before the current one expires. So stay tune for that everyone.

Raven Engineering Department, you will have your hands full when her new home launches.  You are the department that will keep her FTLs running at 110% capacity at all times.  You are the Raven's Guardian.

Keeping the fate!!!!!!  So Say We All!

Regards,

Raven Actual

Fellow Colonials,

Allow me to take a moment as we salute and recognize on of members who has reached a great milestone in her military career celebrating the 20th Anniversary!!  Her career has span the years in quest to no only training the next generation of US Airman, but help citizen here the our great nations.  During Galacticon 3 which took place May 24th she was not able to properly celebrate her great achievement.  With that being said i was asked and commission to render a unique art piece to honor her accomplishment in the US Armed Forces.

This art work is present to none other then Cherry Oclima currently serving in the United States Air Force.  The art denotes her love for Science Fiction with a military twist as well as acknowledging her love for family.  The work dimly shows her loving children's names along with loving husband grace the reaches of space.  Bridging the gap which all our families gives us support in our hobbies as well as our love for Science Fiction.  The newly designed graphics are a merger of the US Air Force logo meets Colonial Phoenix in a beautifully designed frame specifically designed by me for this unique piece as well as matching head seal.  This was a labor love and had to put a couple of things on hold in order to meet her deadline for her birthday which is today the 21st of June.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY as well so this unique also covers that area.

In closing i would like to add two things first thank you for her husband who secretly contacted me and asked if i would do the honor for rendering the piece.  He had insight and provided me with the information i needed.  Secondly i ask that my art piece be left alone and not tampered with by editing any portion of it to be used on some other certificate or website. So i ask everyone to please respect my request without exception.  Please do not ask me permission to use my emblems b/c the answer will be no i reserve all my creations. THANK YOU ALL!!   I truly appreciate your support.  Without any further delay Ladies and Gentlemen here is the art piece below and link so you can also see it better.  Be safe, ADM Rivera, Fleet Commander, BFC.

All good things...

....never end! They just keep getting better!

Good evening, Colonials!

Welcome to our new members...as always another group from all over the planet have landed on our Battlestar...so again welcome.

First of all with this...personally speaking I'm so honored that you are all a part of our family & I'm also very thrilled and pleased with our management team & associates.

Since the BFC was founded in 2000 a lot has gone on and we have a unique history...up until the time of the emergence of the re-imagined series there was pretty much ZERO support from the studios for the property...the fans kept the fires lit along with Richard Hatch and other alumni from the original show.

This IS where the Fan Club has & had it's roots...when I first encountered Richard the question of a viable Fan Club came up & with his inspiration and the combined efforts of Chris Feehan & myself...the BFC was born.

So literally this was a project put forward by fans of the show plus alumni of the show...and that has been how it's been...Richard has always been an innovator in that respect...his Second Coming project was based on the same principal & other people with passion for the product have found that the fan/actor alliance is the champ (because they ARE all fans btw)...like Walter Koenig, George Takei,Tim Russ & Garret Wang from Star Trek...all good examples.

They get it!

To be sure being a fan of something does not mean you need to form a Fan Club...I'm a fan of fried chicken, but I would never make a Fan Club to admire it...!

However this is a totally different thing...it is neither a studio creature telling fans what to like nor is it a bunch of folks with absolutely no connection to what is going on either...we are an interactive group that combines fans of Battlestar Galactica with the actors, writers, musicians, directors & producers of BSG & other productions to create a truly complete whole.

Before I forget to mention...I want to send a BIG thank you out to Bear McCreary for calling and broadcasting Stu Phillips to the fans gathered at our Galacticon 3 opening ceremony & though he wasn't there with us, for making him a part of the celebration.

Stu Phillips, I know you are reading this...we all love you & thank you for bringing light and magic into our universe!

In that continuing frame of thought...we...as you know...have a weekly Hero of Battlestar Galactica announcement...and this goes out to an individual who has enhanced, moved forward and expanded the animal we call Battlestar Galactica in some way shape or form.

This could be an actor, a writer, a director or a fan...anybody who has made a positive contribution...this week it falls to someone who was instrumental in making Galacticon 3 move forward and kept peace and order in the house and who continues to bring that to the Fan Club as well...not only is he a great and hard working fan of BFC (and has been honored by Katee Sackhoff & Tricia Helfer in their road trip adventures) he is an equally hard working member of the police force in Texas....and an example of a cop everyone should have in their town!...I do not honor him because he is a friend of mine, i honor him because he is a good man and a shining example of what a hero is...Colonials, our Hero of Battlestar Galactica....head of security at G3 & I want his butt back for G4...heading our security on the BFC and looking out in the same capacity on BattlestarGalactica.com...our Chief of Staff here as well...Ladies & Gentleman...Paul Nix!

So Say We All!

Shawn O'Donnell

Hello!

Good morning, Colonials!

I want to thank you all again for welcoming me and giving me the chance to be your Deputy VP. I'm looking forward to the opportunities this role will bring to me and what I can bring to all of you.

A little about myself...

BSG didn't enter my life when I was a kid. Sci-fi was not introduced to me until I was about 8 years old when my uncle showed me Terminator II. I was all about it. Post apocalyptic plots, robots, big machine guns, motorcycles (vipers :-p), etc. How could a little kid NOT like those things, right?

From there my interest in sci-fi grew into what it is today - a passion. Strangely enough, I didn't watch BSG (reimagined) when it was airing in 2004. I had just graduated high school in 2003 and was off to college 3 months after. So when BSG aired, I was in college with no TV and a terrible Internet connection. I moved back home in 2005 to pursue a different degree. While working at Sam's club to make some money, I'd come home to see my parents watching Star Trek on a regular basis. Voyager, DS9, Enterprise, Next Generation. They would watch them over and over. They'd wait for me every night to start the episode after I got back from work. That's when it started to click for me. But still, no BSG yet.

I moved to Austin in 2007 for a new job and to be closer to my sister. At this new job, my coworker and I began connecting through things like movies and TV. At that time my impression of BSG was the 1978 version. I wasn't interested at all.

One day he came into the office and asked me if I had seen Battlestar Galactica. I said, "No, isn't that show like really outdated?" And he responded, "No no, the new version." I replied, "What? There is a new version?" He said, "Yes dude. And you need to watch it." I replied, "Nah, I can't see myself enjoying that." He replied, "Do you like Star Trek and Star Wars?" I said, "Of course." He replied, "Then you need to jump on this."

At the time, I didn't have Netflix or Hulu or any streaming device to make it easy to watch the show. So that night I went to Blockbusters and found Season 1 available for rental. I went home and turned it on. For a few minutes I kept thinking, "Psh, this can't be THAT good. I don't see any major action or space opera." But boy was I wrong. Once Caprica Six revealed that she was a Cylon, I was really intrigued. Then Baltar's panic set in. After that I was glued to the TV. I watched the entire series in just 3 weeks. I beat my coworker to the finale.

I became obsessed. I think I've watched the series all the way through at least 10 times (Now on Netflix). I'd have it on in the background while cleaning or cooking.

BSG plunged me into a new love for sci-fi. Even out of the sci-fi genre. It was more like it made me realize what it means to have a passion for a franchise.

I'm so glad to have seen the light and to have given the show a chance. It led me to G3; it led me to new friends and now it has led me to all of you.

It's my pleasure to be a part of this great team and I look forward to what's in store for the future.

So say we all!

Rob
Deputy VP

What is it like to be a Marine aboard the Raven you ask? I believe the General Orders that all new Marine Recruits have to know and memorize will tell it all.

-To take charge of this post and all BFC property in view

-To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing.

-To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce.

-To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guardhouse than my own. IE: in the event of a COMM breakdown, all orders must be yelled or verbally given to the next sentry no matter the distance from the next post and so on...until the entire unit knows the same order issued.

-To quit my post only when properly relieved.

-To receive, obey and pass on to the sentry who relieves me all orders from the Executive Officer, Detachment commander, and officers, both commissioned and non-commissioned, of the guard only.

-To talk to no one except in the line of duty.

-To give the alarm in case of fire or disorder.

-To call the MarDet Commander or the XO in any case not covered by instructions.

-To salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased.

-To be especially watchful at all times, especially wartime, and to challenge all persons on or near my post and to allow no one to pass without proper authority.
