Richard Hatch: Celebration Day

Hello Colonials,

A few weeks ago I sent the word forth about this special event set for Saturday May 20th.

For the background on this (if some of you missed it), Richard was a great lover of Japanese steakhouses & hot sake!

I attended many of these group dinners as I'm sure a lot of you have...great fun.

Not with sadness, but with happiness at what he gave the fans & the world.

I invite everyone who can host one of these events in their locality to give me a shout out on this, we would really like to see multiple events.

In memory

Hello Everyone,

My apologies for the delay in getting a message out to you all...I have been traveling the last few days, plus it has taken me a bit of time to wrap my head around what happened this past week.

As you all know, Richard Hatch passed away this past Tuesday February 7th.

Again, it is something that took me a few days to adjust to & to even actually believe...I'm sure you all have felt the same way.

I will tell you that I will miss him greatly...for all of you who had a chance to meet him & to know him...you'll remember what a truly great guy he was.

Not only a wonderful person, a talented one at that...not only as an actor, but as a writer, producer & motivational speaker and instructor.

He was also probably Battlestar Galactica's greatest fan as well as being it's loudest and most persistent booster.

If not for his efforts the franchise might never have grown past the original series & the short lived Galactica: 1980.

I know that everyone is saddened at this loss, but at the same time we must remember all the great things that grew out of his being among us.

I also know that rather than falter, he would want each & everyone of us to continue to carry the torch and continue where he left off, to keep doing what we have been doing in order to keep the dream alive.

To move forward.

So now we must raise a cup of Ambrosia to our friend & remember that in many real ways he is still among us & we can keep his memory alive....see you on the other side my friend...

Raven "Beast" Debut -Comicpalooza 2016

Hello Colonials,

As you all know, Battlestar Galactica Fan Club's Flagship Chapter has just recently celebrated it's 5th Chapter Anniversary as a group. The Battlestar Raven is truly humbled by all the blessings, accolades it has been receiving and continue to grow both in quantity and quality as a group. The group could not have done it without her loyal and talented members, friends and all her fans.  During its 5th Chapter Anniversary as a group, it was finally revealed to the public, the project that is being worked.  It is a personalize version of the Mercury Class Battlestar, RDM version of the Battlestar Pegasus.  It is personalize because it will bear the name Raven-BFC 002 right where the seal will be.  The model is a studio scale size that is at least 6 feet long and about 3-4 feet in width depending how far out the landing bay/launch pad will extend out on the side.  This model is unlike others  and  will be the first one of its kind built with such details. One of those details has already been revealed but not all,  at the Raven's FB fan page -

This model came about as I was looking for a builder to build one for.  My passion for BSG led me to wanting to own my own model and was not settling for just the smaller model.  I wanted something BIG that will help inspire others about the show as it has inspired me. It is more effective when seen as they say.   I am a collector so I love owning unique things in my collection.  So a man by the name of Dan Joplin of D & L Fantasy Arms, came forward and presented himself to me and told me, he will build one for me.  He is the same person that I helped recruited to the combine convention of Galacticon 3 and Comicpalooza.  After talking with him, a contract was drawn during Comicpalooza 2015, to build this magnificent model for me that will be used representing the Battlestar Raven Battle Group at conventions.  This project means a lot to the person building this for me and my group.  Why you ask?  This will be his last BIG project because according to his opthamologest, he only has about 60% of his site and could be blind in 3 to 5 years and has advanced arthritis, and maybe retiring from doing what he is doing now.  He will just do some personal pieces to leave for his family and that I maybe receiving his last and best project of his life's work. That is why he is pouring his heart out making this model.   When he told me this over the phone, I did not know what to say but felt truly thankful for everything he has been doing to build this project for me.  And you know what they say about the end results from things made and built from love...it is priceless and you will hold it dearly close to your heart because it is one of a kind.

So folks, I would like to personally invite all of you, especially all the Ravens from all around, to join the Raven Houston Contingent crew led by Raven Marine NCOIC, Paul "Iceworm" Oakley, to the debut of the Raven "Beast" , this summer at Comicpalooza.  We will have some special guest with us.  They are the founders of our sister club from the UK-Battlestar Galactica Fan & Costuming Club.  The Raven "Beast" will be the pride of the Raven Fleet and will represent the mother club ( BFC) with honor anywhere it goes.  And we hope that the "Beast" will become your pride as well too.  It is as close as we are all going to get, to feeling being aboard a real Battlestar. ;-) :-)

Colonials and All Raven Members,

In the spirit of Battlestar Raven's upcoming 5th Chapter Anniversary,  I would like to run a contest.  The contest rules are as follows:

To start off the contest, we will have the following polling categories and then followed by the actual contest category....

1. What do you think is the best BSG episode that really got you holding on to your seat?

2.  Best BSG fight scene

3.  Best BSG catch phrase / quote

4.  Who is your favorite Cylon Model

5.  Who is the best antagonist/ villain charater

CHAPTER CONTEST CATEGORY:  BEST BSG Cosplay Costume

-Participants will submit a picture of themselves in their BSG cosplay costume whether it be you were attending a convention or just taking a photo of yourself in you BSG Costume at home.

-The top 5 submission will then be put up in a poll for all the fans to vote on. 

-The person that receives that highest votes on the poll, will win the top prize which is the BFC Raven Command Challenge Coin.  This coin is not given out or made available to the public due to the uniqueness of its purpose why it was built for.  And this is one of those occasion.

Happy Holidays

Fellow Colonials,

On behalf of the Battlestar Galactica Fan Club Leadership, I would just like to wish each and everyone of you, a very MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!  I know I am a day late but Christmas is all about love and family. So I was spending some time with my family ( husband and children ) .  I have also been very busy with real life events at work.  So, I have had a pretty busy year overall.  But, I have not forgotten anyone here, my second family.  I say second family because Fleet is Family.  And we are a FAMILY here at the BFC.

It has been one hell of a good year here at the BFC. We have had a steady growth here at the fan club.  And I am very please and happy about that.  That would not have been made possible without the loyal and true fans of the show we all love, Battlestar Galactica.  Fans continue to show their love for the show as I have seen at conventions I attend, media outlets I run across too etc...It is like the BSG Force inside us has awaken even more.  ;-) :-)   With that said, as BFC Vice President,  I would like to personally thank all of you for a wonderful year and for all the support you guys have given the BFC.

Now, on another note. Most of you know, I am also known in the BSG Community and Science Fiction Community as a whole, as Raven Actual.  The Year 2016 is something to watch out for when it comes to the BFC Flagship Chapter, as she will be revealing something big at the very first convention the group will be attending.  And that is the All Con Convention.  This will be a major symbol for the Raven Battle Group whom most of you know, launch her very first Gunstar Escort and was commissioned during Galacticon 4.  The honor of officiating her commissioning was officiated by none other than Miss Luciana Carro, assisted by myself and Raven Marine NCOIC Paul "Iceworm" Oakley along with Raven Classic Series Cylon Command Centurion Member Timothy Riely.  It was a memorable moment for the Gunstar Trireme Crew.  And I have Miss Luciana Carro to thank for wholeheartedly for that honor.  She truely is a class act for doing something like that and for the fans who where there to witness the little ceremony. :-) Luciana, thank you very much for that.

FROM MINE TO YOURS, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU AND YOUR LOVE ONES!  Be safe now and see you all in 2016 at a nearby convention.  I would like to see as many of you attend a convention near you just for the fun of it. You just never know who you will run into ;-) :-)  But for now, enjoy spending quality time with your family and love ones.  Those moments are very precious and special!  So Say We All!

I just wanted to take my time to congratulate four of our young Raven members on the Raven Battle Group,  for achieving excellence in school.  We may do what do here on the Raven Battle Group on the side for fun but what matters the most, is what we really accomplished in real life.  Well, four of our young Raven members have achieved excellence in school by making it on the honor roll list in their respective school ( A's and B's on ) on their first 9 week grading period.  These four young Raven members are certainly off to a good start for this school year.

Gunstar Trireme Commissioning

Good Morning,

It is finally Friday!  HOOAH!!!!!!!!!!! First order of business today is to let people know, if they do not already know, the Gunstar Trireme, Battlestar Raven's 1st Gunstar Escort, has been OFFICIALLY commissioned this past August 2,2015.  We did a pre-commissioning ceremony which was officiated by none other than Luciana Carro herself. She was so sweet for doing that.  

Good hunting to the crew of Trireme, who is taking her place alongside the Raven as her protector, OFFCIALLY forming the Raven Battle Group.  More ships will be commissioned as part of the Raven Battle Group!

NEW RAVEN AIRWING CAG

ATTENTION ALL RAVEN PERSONNEL, FAMILY AND FRIENDS,

I have been meaning to make this announcement but real life got in the way as usual. 

I am sure a lot of you know by now that Colonel Keith"Leonidas" Ranson, was relieved off duty as the Raven CAG.  But this is so in order for him to assume command of the Gunstar Trireme, as her new Commanding Officer.  The Gustar Trireme is the Raven's first gunstar escort and the first gunstar commissioned here at the BFC.  The OFFICIAL Change of Command took place by none other than Luciana Carro's table and was officiated by both her and myself.  She was such a sweetheart for doing it with me and as such, an honor.  I chose her since she was CAG both on the Pegasus and the Galactica so it is just fitting for her to relieved Colonel Keith "Leonidas" Ranson.  

I like to promote from within first before I even consider bringing someone from the outside.  I like to give people chances for growth.  The individual that was recommended to me to take his place, is someone that came to the Raven from the Colonial Defense Forces a few years ago.  He ask me if I would give him a chance to be a member and allow him to be an intrical part of the group. And I gave him the chance by appointing him as the Squadron Commander of The Flying Tigers.   And he just did that what he promise me he was going to do.  The Raven was still at the infancy stage and I just became her new Commanding Officer when I first encountered "Reamer" at the BFC site.  I was tasked by the President of the BFC, to turn her around and give her a new life and purpose.  The first thing I did was to appoint new competent Command Staff members that will help me run the Raven properly.  Then recruiting more members, came easily after that.  And here we are, a couple years later, enjoying much success and having fun with each other. :-)  But, we had to start somewhere.  And that somewhere, was at the bottom and gradually, work our way up. The path to success and smooth sailing, was not an easy one for us.  We had our own fair share of bumps along the road.   That is why, we are a strong and tight knit family of friends because we are able to come together, when we need it the most.  We never leave anyone behind and are always there for each other.

So, it is with great pleasure that I announce, that the new Raven CAG is none other than Major Roger "Reamer"Barstow.  May the Lords of Kobol guide you to success,as you take on this new responsibility and position.

NEW Raven OPS Officer Needed

Steve Tweed, the current Raven Executive Officer of Battlestar Raven, has been filling in the position of OPS Officer which he originally vacated when he got selected to become Executive Officer. But now, it is time to select the best candidate out there to fill in the position.  The OPS Officer job description is as follows:

OPERATIONS: 

Chief of Operations: 

1. Second Officer and third in Command
2. Oversees and manages the real-life details of the fan club
3. Member of the senior staff
4. Problem solving person for operations
5. Monthly reports
6. Communicates with operations personnel
7. Considers/approves operations request with XO approval
8. Support and attend community service and other projects
9. Attend all required meetings
10. All other duties as assigned

Galacticon Gold Spotlight on Grace Park

Grace Park joins Galacticon!...this IS 10th installment of Galacticon Gold!

12578022072?profile=originalGrace Park (originally born in Los Angeles) moved with her family to Vancouver British Columbia canada as a child...she got of course early recognition playing two characters in one on Battlestar Galactica...as the Cylon(s) Sharon "Boomer" Valerii & also as Sharon "Athena" Agathon, she also went on to portray Shannon Ng in the series Edgemont & currently portrays Kono Kalakaua in Hawaii Five-0.

I caught up with her to do the following interview with her during the the filming of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica

The Battlestar Galactica Fan Club had the recent pleasure of chatting with Grace Park...Boomer in the new Battlestar Galactica.
Grace has some interesting things to say about Battlestar Galactica, her career and her aspirations.

Shawn: How did you make your start in the acting profession?


Grace: I did a bunch of commercials and thought being on set was the best thing
in the world: you get fed, clothed, made over and then have a nap and goof off.
I thought...I could get used to this and that's when the fun ended.
After that, pretty standard, acting classes and auditions, and still going.

Shawn: What do you consider to be your "break" as an actress?

Grace: Battlestar Galactica...but at the time, I was trying to convince my parents
that Edgemont, a Canadian teen series, was HUGE!
Especially for a fledgling actress.

Shawn: What was the first television role you
landed?...as well as film role?

Grace: Hmmm...No need to invite humiliation
for film...it was "Romeo Must Die".

Shawn: Aside from Battlestar Galactica, what are you working on now?

Grace; Sanity. 
Oh! You mean work...just reading scripts &
stuff.

Shawn: Again, aside from Battlestar...what has been your favorite project in either film or television?

Grace: Well I’d say this very hush project with Ben Kingsley & Daniel Day Lewis
but then people wouldn't believe me, so I'll stick to Edgemont. 
It was like school, going back every fall, but we never had to go to class! 
We could  just hang out, have fun, and made some of my closest friends there. 
It was a very special time.

Shawn: Any special film you'd like to work
on?...essentially a dream project...

Grace I joke about Charlie's Angels...but I'm serious and "Memoirs of a geisha" would have been absolutely amazing.
I would love to work with Wong Kar Wai or Ang Lee.

Shawn: How about a personal project?...anything that you'd like to bring to film or television?

Grace: I would love to one day be part of a project that would tell the stories behind the Japanese occupation in Korea, the struggles, turmoil and heartaches and especially the tragedy of young virgin girls forced into sexual slavery, aka "comfort women"...my mom told me some about it and it  haunts me...I want to tell the stories that mean something to me, my culture and heritage.

Shawn: As far as acting is concerned...do you have preferences?...in other words...Dramatic, action or comedy roles?

Grace: Action, drama and comedy!

Shawn: Any interesting or funny stories from the set?

Grace: I like how Katee fell asleep in her viper during a take... there's this
scene where I’m alone in the brig, hands and feet bound in hardcore metal shackles, and as the ship is being attacked I'm fighting to get free, and all of a sudden I break them open!
But they weren't supposed to break, but I don't care and I just about ran outta the cell till the  director yelled cut!
And last year for the big finale where Sharon sees 12 versions of
herself, they had to do a huge 3 day casting to find exact lookalikes for me, it
was a big deal, wigs, skin match, hair on the arm match.
But on the day when I finally saw the girls, only 1 1/2 were Asian! 
They looked nothing like me.

Shawn: Getting on to a more Battlestar Galactica related question...you
portray Boomer on the new show, which originally was played by Herb
Jefferson...have you had an easy time making that character your own?

Grace: Well, she's a Cylon, there are two of them, one is programmed to obliterate
the human race, the other doesn't know that she's a robot and that she's
programmed to obliterate the human race. One's having a human-hybrid pregnancy and has killed another version of herself,
and is devoted to the Cylon plan, God and race, none of which really exists!
So really, it's been a cake walk.

Shawn: Do you feel you get a lot of fan
support?...there was a lot made of the fact that the Starbuck character is a woman in the new series.
Do you think having Boomer as a woman has created the same "stir"?

Grace: No, even changing Boomer to a Cylon didn't create the same stir!
The fans have been wonderful.

Shawn: It does seem that your character has quite a pivotal role on the show...did you expect that going into the series?

Grace: Hell no!

Shawn: In terms of character development, where would you like to see Boomer go?

Grace: I would like to see her strength, and how she'll deal with her anger and
hatred of the oppression she's felt towards the humans, and how that will battle with her new feelings of experiencing love.

Shawn: Any advice you'd like to share with the aspiring actors and actresses out there?

Grace: "It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better.
The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again because there is no effort
without error and shortcomings, who knows the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at best knows in the end the high achievement of triumph and who, at
worst, if he fails while daring greatly, knows his place shall never be with those timid and cold souls who knew neither victory nor defeat."
