The Raven Colonial Marine Detachment Patch and Banners are filled with heraldry and symbols that express their creed, beliefs and values. The following are the descriptions of these symbols and what we hold each to represent.
- Stars represent Excellence, and the numerous stars mean we expect effort and results in everything we do.
- The laurel wreath signifies Success and Victory.
- The eagles stand for Bravery, Strength, Intelligence and Awareness. Eagles with wings displayed also signify Protection.
- The use of the Classic style BSG patch demonstrates Respect for the Past, along with our ties and debt to it.
- The anchor stands for Steadfast Dependability.
- The skull represents Mortality and Sacrifice.
- The words are our Ship and our Creed. The very word “Raven” means “Strategist in Battle”.
- The crossed Weapons represent Military Honor, and the use of long guns are unique to the Marines on board.
- The combination of Beret, Flash, Skull and Long Guns are meant to identify the Marines and their Function to those seeing it even if they can’t read the words.
