Recently I had a great talk with Scott Crisp, who has been hosting a call in radio segment known as Mr. Scott's Convention Corner for several years. He started out on the B.K. on the Radio show but with popularity growing he is moving to new digs with an expanded one hour event on a different affiliate...said new hosting spot to be announced soon.
In the meantime you can check out Scott's Facebook Page here.
So, let's roll into the interview!
Shawn: First of all, what got you into doing a radio show in the first place?
Scott: Well, I started on the B.K. on the Radio Show which was the brain child of one of my longtime friends Barry King. He asked me to start a segment on the show doing movie reviews. Because of my involvement with several Sci-Fi Conventions the segment evolved into what is now Mr. Scott's Convention Connection.
Shawn: And you work with DragonCon as well?
Scott: Yes, I am part of the DragonCon social media team. Our 5 person team is directly responsible for all forms of social media, interaction between DragonCon and the fans on Facebook, Twitter etc.
Shawn: You had mentioned that you work with Garrett Wang (Star Trek: Voyager) on an ongoing project?
Scott: That is correct. 5 years ago Garrett Wang too over as the director for Trek Track at DragonCon...as you mentioned, Garrett played Harry Kim on Star Trek: Voyager. He has been involved in several "fan films" and is very involved in several Conventions all over the world. Garrett asked me to help develop the social media side of the Trek Track. In addition to my love for Battlestar Galactica I am also a big fan of Star Trek (as well as Babylon 5).
Shawn: Let's talk about Battlestar Galactica now that you mentioned, where did that start for you?
Scott: I started watching what is now referred to as classic Battlestar Galactica in 1978. I loved the show. Later I watched Galactica: 1980 & that was really the introduction of Cylons who looked like humans. That, to me was both a great addition to that show and also represented a fear that aliens could take on the look of humans and walk among us. When the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica was released I certainly had to watch that as well.
Shawn: What Battlestar Galactica cast members had you done radio spots with?
Scott: Richard Hatch has called in twice and we were able to do an onsite interview with Herb Jefferson Jr. during last years DragonCon.
We would love to have Dirk Benedict on the show as well.
I spent five minutes with Edward James Olmos last year for a printed piece on the shows Facebook page. That was a real treat.
Shawn: Other shows cast member interviews?
Scott: As you can imagined Garrett Wang has been on the show. We have also had several members of different "paranormal investigation" show on over the past 2 years.
Shawn: Anybody ever make you nervous going into an interview?
Scott: I spent about 10 minutes with Lucy Lawless for a printed piece...just her beauty alone could make me nervous. George Takei could see I was a little nervous and he made the process very comfortable.
Shawn: How was it that you came across the Battlestar Galactica Fan Club?
Scott: A few years ago at DragonCon I was walking around the fan tables and found myself having a long conversation with the folks manning the Battlestar Galactica Fan Club table. I have been a member ever since!
Shawn: Well, as you know I'm moving to a new affiliate with an expanded one hour format...coming soon...so that's part of it and of course I will be covering DragonCon next month! As we push forward we will, I'm sure attract even more listeners and hopefully more guests to grace our airwaves.

Excellent and just proves that even at child watching Classic Battlestar Galactica still stay with us all. Even i still find myself having to show new Battlestar Galactica fans about the original show. Nowadays so many think the Re-Imagined Series is the only show. When they finally see the Classic they are just floored b/c they has no clue the show existed. Keep it going Mr. Scott and be safe!
