I've been here for 10 months. I've been in the Middle East before, but not as long as this time.
I work for a defense contractor as a strategy consultant. It looks like our contract will be cut short, and I might be back in the US sometime this summer.

Sounds like you had a great career in the USAF Stephen. What's it like living in the Middle East and what type of work are you involved with these days if you don't mind me asking.

It was the old gunner position on the B-52, which is on the top deck. This is an H-model, so it had a single 20mm cannon in the tail. This picture was taken in '03, but the guns were removed in the mid-90s, so I'm not 'controlling' anything!
I wanted to be a B-52 gunner when I graduated from high school in '86, but I went to college full-time instead. I enlisted a year later when I ran out of money, but was assigned to tankers to repair avionics. I was commissioned as an officer five years later.

It looks like you're manning some type of gun in this photo. I've seen photos of a 155mm Howitzer and a 40mm single Bofor in one of the more modern gun ships. What type and size gun were you operating at the time?

I had 3200 total hours, most in the E-3 and B-52.
This photo was taken in the old gunner position when I was an extra crewmember on a combat mission over Iraq. Most of the time I was downstairs in the offense compartment.
