Good to see activity with the Spartans...keep it up!
All great options! Let me know when you want to start...
New members would be great. Lots of new faces in the club but we need pilots. In the end a few but active members are better than many who are inactive so that's something.
Did you have of the forum games you wanted to start up? At least something to check out every day or two might entice everyone to jump in. If we make them something that everyone is a part of though and not unit specific it might generate traffic through the group.:)
You are correct,Hellpop: It IS about the journey; The original version pretty much reflected the times; This was the '70s, where 'Star Wars' opened the gates for real sci-fi story telling;Back then, however, it was mostly about SFX,which were pretty costly back then; That's one of the principal reasons the original BSG lasted only one season; However, if A second season was greenlighted, the famed writer Issac Asimov would have been on board as A science consultant: imagine the stories that could have been told then.
Fast forward to '03, the debut of the miniseries; Ron D. moore, who previously worked on 'Star Trek',decided to put more reality into the story; In my view, it was definitely A more grittier, dirt under the fingernails mood; And, done in A semi-documentary style; This was done post 9/11, when the world seemed to tighten things up A bit;Again, A reflection of the times.
There were purists who didn't like the idea of human cylons, or replacing certain male characters with females; However, as you pointed out, it's about the quest, the journey; And, that's why I'm loyal to the old, but have embraced the new;To love the RDM series for what it is, and not hate it for what it's not.
Now, there's no telling in what direction they will go, if they ever get the movie project rolling again; But, it will be interesting to see.
Nat,
That is a big question.
First and foremost I would say the spectacle of their journey. For me the entire BSG universe has always been about the journey. That may be an obvious metaphor for the show but seeing as it principally mirrors our 'journey' in this life as well it has always resonated with me. Where we were going both as individuals and as a whole may be the only thing that really sticks to both series.
Obviously the story and style changed significantly from the original to the re imagined but the essential essence remained the same.
I love both shows but prefer the re imagined as the original, for me, shows its age with its often cheesy story and dialog as well as its, generally, over the top or cliched, by today's standards, performances.
That being said the re imagined did what the original never had a chance to and that is end the journey...which is both a good and a bad thing in my opinion. I actually liked the fact that the original, with its lack of closure, was able to fully live on with its fans by leaving all of those questions as to how they found earth and how we lost all of the technology they had unanswered.
So...yeah, I'm not really sure I can pin it down any further than that.:)
CONGRATULATIONS NAT!
When this squadron was first established,we were laying the groundwork and establishing the path for future warriors to take this ball and run with it;That has become the nucleus of the raven air wing, the finest in the fleet!
Now, the squadron is YOURS, and, you must put your stamp on it, for others to follow.
And, it makes no difference, male or female; If you can lead, you can do great things:
And, if you need my advice, don't hesitate to ask;Either thru my BFC profile page,or on facebook.com/keithranson.7.
Again congratulations! SO SAY WE ALL!
'Leonidas'
Congratulations Spartan to your new SC, Ens. Natalie "NAT" Hallam!
Indeed, Patience is needed when the admiral is grading other exams;And, he has A real world job,like we all do, that sometimes pulls his focus;
Anyway, spartans, it's good to see some life in the squadron again; There's A veteran among you, mark brian 'caprica 77' rouland, who is just getting back to the BFC after some real world issues; You might want to get to know him,so some cohesiveness can be established again, and the squadron can once again take front and center of the finest air wing in the fleet!
WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?
'Leonidas'
Former Squadron Commander
