Hello all.
just wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that we got spammed earlier this weekend, and some of you may have gotten a post from a member that was not in line with content we support on this site. We have upped security by going back to having all memebers who apply approved by a moderator instead of having the account automaticaly accepted, cutting down on the chance of a spam account getting approved. I would ask that any members who get or see a post or other content that does not seem right please notify myself or another moderator. Spam is just a reality of the internet age and can be very damaging at times. As some of you know in my "day job" I am an investigator for a North Texas Sheriff's Department. In the last year the number of cases I have gotten involving internet scams has at least doubled if not more. Be alert in all your dealings on the net,it can be a tricky place.
Take care all.

The member using the name path has been airlocked for spam. Thanks for letting me know about it.

I just got that same message from Path yesterday. It kind of creeped me out, but I just deleted it. I am glad to hear that the member has been airlocked. Roslin would be proud! :) Thank you!
I think we got hit..YET AGAIN!!!

Found this in my profile page:

Good day,
How is everything with you, I picked interest on you, after going through your short profile and deemed it necessary to write you immediately. I have something very vital to disclose to you, but I found it difficult to express myself here, since it's a public site.Could you please get back to me My E-mail address (pathbahi39@yahoo.com ) for the full details.
Have a nice day.
thanks,
Path.

OY!
I think that everyone received the general mail posting on the most recent spam event & took the appropriate action & deleted the message.
The spammer in question was purged from our lists & we do appreciate your patience & cooperation in the matter.
Unfortunately as Paul noted...spamming is a part of everyday life regarding the internet.
We do everything we can to avoid it here, hence a security protocols in the signup process...periodically we remove some of those protocols when we have large signups to the site....for instance when we do conventions & need to hand enter those folks...as soon as that is accomplished we restore the protocols to their normal function.
Unfortunately, every once in a while during those periods someone does manage to slip through which we promptly "airlock".
Again, thank you for you patience & of course let good common sense guide you...I hope most people know better than to wire money to an undisclosed source anywhere or give out secure information...so always let that be your guide...if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't!
Cylons are everywhere and I don't think we've seen the last of them.
Just keep in mind when you get an email like that to notify the command staff and never reply to it. you'll be safe if you act like that.
I've gotten two of these "messages" myself. I knew they were fake by the way they were worded. No BSG fan would speak that way...not one "frak" in the whole message!
Hmm.
I think I am getting hiT AGAIN.
