This is EXACTLY what they mentioned with the Borg. Nanobots that are dispersed throughout the body and interface with not only a collective, but also between the human biological parts and the cybernetic prosthetics.

This is also the sort of thing we see when the skin job Cylons link up together in the weird water stuff or the cool red light interfaces. They are all linked together in a collective interface. Notice also we're talking about altering DNA as well on the nanbot scale.
