That is a REALLY GOOD QUESTION, and there seems to be no concrete answer. Here is what I have found from others seeking the same answer. I suppose that battlegroup size could vary depending on tactical needs and goals. So, if there are 120 battlestars to work with, they could, I suppose be sectioned into as many groups as possible that way. Since 12 is a key number in the series and can be sectioned off in groups of 2X6, 6X2, 3X4, 4X3, 1X12, and 12X1, that would be a good generic way of creating groups. They could also be based on ten..2X5, 5X2, 1X10, and 10X1. Lots of flexability there. I guess to really get a concrete answer we'd have to get the writers to say.
