Just a friendly reminder. I previously mentioned to some of you that the computers are all fried at my place of employment, and I have been using a family computer to do all welcoming and posting on the Battlestar Galactica Fan Club site during the Christmas and New Year holidays. This will not be the case when the holidays are over, so after New Year, I will not be able to welcome, greet, and support new members of the Battlestar Galactica Fan Club or the Battlestar Atlantia, at least not in a timely and consistent fashion. We do not want for anybody to be or feel left out or slighted, so please respond accordingly.
It's a great club, and I'll try to visit and check it out when I can, but my timely and consistent participation can not be guaranteed as of New Years.
Hey, Chief! Just thought you'd like to know. There's a new guy here named George T Butler who is also interested in Engineering stuff related to Battlestar Galactica. Y'all should hit it off well. His contact info is...
Hey, Chief! Looks great! Yes, post in the Atlantia's Engineering section, as well as the Battlestar Galactica School of Engineering secion on the home page, and also, just for kicks go for it on the discussion forums too! Thanks for help recruiting for the Atlantia too...It'll help with the dialong and role playing to have more active recruits involved. I do try to promote the Atlantia as much as is "appropriate," but have to remain neutral too for fairness sake.
Good hunting and happy posting Chief! The more the merrier!
Hey, Matt! I was recently have been assigned to the Battlestar Fan Club's equivalent of Wal-Mart Greeter, welcoming new members aboard and trying to help them get settled in. I've noticed that the Battle Star Raven is recruiting very heavily. I have to try to stay neutral and not promote one group over an other, so if you or someone else there could watch closely and send a copy and paste invitation to the Battlestar Atlantia to the new comers, it woud help out greatly...The Atlantia needs more participation, and thus needs more members to be posting.
Anyway, just an idea. IF you have spare time and are interested, the Battlestar Atlantia could use some active recruiting. I check the members section every morning. The newest are the top ones. It's easy to send invites to them until you run into some older members or members already affiliated with a Battlestar.
I do intend to mention the Atlantia, the Raven and the Titan in future welcome messages. It's a sure bet the Raven will be actively jumping in and recruiting, so the Atlantia needs some one to actively recruit, especially while the Admiral's out doing real world duties.
Totally agreed 100,000% The Federation stuff is mostly for exploration with defense only added as a secondary consideration. Their hulls are much thinner too from the designs I’ve seen. Yes, that makes total sense-You can’t just jump into uncharted territory…Yes, space is vast, but there’s still stuff out there…Jump into the wrong spot and you’re in the middle of an asteroid or space junk, or a sun, a moon, a comet, or what ever.
Also, I do remember that the Cylon heavy raiders were able to jump much greater distances because of their calculation abilities. That’s why Starbuck was able to get back to Caprica so fast, and later with Cylon help, the raptor rescue mission to Caprica just took a handful of jumps rather than a bazillion which they had made to get to their “present” location. Really it does make lots of sense, you would have to not only have everything charted out very well, but you would also have to factor in the orbits of EVERYTHING that could be involved…especially if jumping close to the planet or else…just one teenincy gravitational disturbance has just one teenincy thing in slightly the wrong spot…and SPLAT!!!! The most interesting to happen to you that whole day! Especially since it was your last!
Hey, you take care, Chief! Good hunting, and as the Klingons would say “Kapla!” (Success!)
:o)
John David Feagin
PS…I still like the Beavis and Butthead spin on Star Trek the Yuppie Generation…”Number one, I command you to go and take a number two!”
By the way...FTL's best for tactical hit and run ops, while Warp is best for pursuit. Also, I have to wonder about Dradus vs Federation scanners. Naturally you get a better 3D perspective with raptors surrounding an area and scanning from all directions, but the Federation types always like to say theirs is better and more elite. (Snobs). Anyway, that's just the sort of stuff I've considered for a long while. :o) JDF
PS...Yes, I noticed how it sort of looks like it's scanning it self and faxing it self to the second location. In trekkie geek theory that would probably be because they have to put a field around the ship before sending it through the "folded" space. Oh...Here's einen uberquestion fur einen ubertechnonerd! What's faster...FTL jumps or Warp Drive? I've seen both opinions, and it seems that FTL jumps mostly depend on accurate calculation of coordinates. In theory, Warp 9 is the fastest so far, but it is also unsafe and can screw up the space time continuum if overused. It seems to have taken about maybe 3-4 Yahren to get to Earth from the Colonies...but they had to wait on the slower clunkier civie ships. When the Enterprise got put into Borg space by Q (the Trekkie version of Iblis), it would have taken them 9 years to get back to Earth. I'm not sure about the distances in either case. Natuarlly Hyper Drive from Star Wars would have to be the fastest since they could go from one side of the galaxy to the other in about the time it takes us to fly to Europe from the USA..and they MAY have also been able to go from galaxy to galaxy, too. Nothing though can touch...LUDICROUS SPEEEEED from Space Balls! :o) Take care Chief!
Thanks Chief Gedeon! That would be GREAT! I look for lots of stuff on the net, but most of the useful stuff is on the original series. If you have any good info, please do send it to me here, or else e-mail me at txstore@embarqmail.com . Also, Keith Ranson (the guy with the pic of the Spartan 300 guy on his profile pic) has really been looking for just this sort of thing. He would be immensely grateful to finally find some good stuff he didn’t have! Anyway, I know we would be very interested in such technical drawings, as would many others who don’t post lots of stuff.
Also, if it is possible, you may want to add any such info to the Atlantia’s Engineering Section. I posted gobs of regularly available info there. It’d be great if you posted some good technical stuff-practical and tactical there. The same would go for the school of engineering on the front page of the site.
Good hunting Chief!...and watch out for them sneeeeeky Cylons and gremlins. They’re always up to no good!
Attn: Chief Gedeon! I just came accross this and figured that you might be interested. I always ASS-U-ME'd that the FTL would be in the rear of the ship surrounded by the external engines...otherwise why have them placed externally!? Well, I ASS-U-ME'd WRONG!!!! Check out these blueprints. It's located in the dome with the ship's ravenesque logo...REALLY CLOSE TO THE CIC! Totally convenient! Anyway, I just thought this technical observatio might be of interste to you. Good hunting Chief!
Sorry, still no GOOD blueprints for the Pegasus. The systems should be about the same though. Main differences being that the Pegasus has raptor bays on the sides of the landing bays, and is bigger with more engines, twice the landing bays, etc. The main components would be about the same though.
Excellent Chief Gedeon! I know you do an outstanding job. You can still manage most of your duties in the CIC, manning the FTL. Most duties are delegated out and have capable and well motivated crews attending each post. You will need only to supervise them and make certain everything is going smoothly. I wish you the very best Chief Gedeon!
I was wondering. You seem to be very motivated and enthusiastic as an engineer aboard the Battlestar Atlantia, and you are well qualified in matters related to the FTL system. I will be going about other duties that will require my absence aboard the Battlestar Atlantia. How does the position of Chief Engineer sound to you? If you feel qualified and can carry on all of the duties that the position entails, I will personally recommend your promotion to Admiral Thacker. I must warn you though, it can be a thankless job. Some of the pilots treat you like felgarcarb and gripe constantly when there is any little problem, but when you work miracles on the messes they bring in and repair the runways they have dug out with their sloppy landings, not a word of thanks or appreciation. The same goes with absolutely all other systems aboard the ship. If you are as comfortable and capable with maintenance of all other systems on the ship, and can work well with your fellow crewmen, the job is yours. I must also warn you to keep your com-link (e-mail) open at all times for instructions from the CIC, or if you don’t seem enthusiastic enough about your duties, the Admiral may just challenge you to a boxing match and try to pommel you without warning. There are many intangible rewards that do go with the position of Chief Engineer as well. You have the satisfaction of keeping everything purring to perfection like a kitten, and the knowledge that you are saving the lives of your fellow crewmen by keeping everything up and running in tip top condition. You are also a sort of laison between the officers in their duty blues and the enlisted men, or grunts in their duty greens. If you do well, you will have the respect of both worlds. Please advise, and should you accept, congratulations, CHIEF! I know you’ll do great!

Chief, just want you to know you're doing a great job! Good hunting today.
Hey, Chief! If you'd like, you can also post some of the same stuff you post in the Atlantia's Engineering Dept here at the club's School of Engineering! That way everybody can get a look if they don't drop by the Atlantia. http://battlestarfanclub.com/group/battlestar-galactica-engineering-and-technology
You've got lots of great info. Only share when you have time though. It needs to be a fun project of love, not a burden.
Good hunting Chief! Great work!
