"There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive, somewhere beyond the heavens."

many of you may be aware of this but it was news to me. I did not realize several versions of the original Galactica pilot episode ( movie) exist. It makes sense of a few things I was confused on though. I watched the pilot a couple of years ago and was confused because I remebered a couple of scenes that were missing and some scenes seamed shorter. This link explains the different versions.

As a kid I remember Baltar being killed and Serina was a news reporter covering a story when the colonies were attacked. In the later version all the stuff with her broadcasting a report is edited out as well as Baltar being killed by the centurion with a sword. I also read that Serina was originally a terminally ill character but that was edited out before it was released in the United States.
I have recently been able to watch the original BSG on Netflix and kept feeling uneasy. I remembered being confused during BSG but couldn't remember why...Now I do. Yes, I remember Baltar dying then coming back...Never remember them explaining why. In watching the pilot on Netflix, Baltar didn't die at the end....grrrr...confusing.
Yea, the version on netflix cuts that out. I have a dvd that has it, but i noticed that what you see is the cylone raise his sword and baltar scream, but we never see him actually get killed. I guess it could be assumed that he was allowed to live at the last moment in exchange for helping chase the humans.

The original TV version is the longest version.

The one that was released in the movie theatre is shorter and is the one that shows Baltar being killed.

My first exposure was to the original television airing of the episode, and to this day I swear I remember stuff in there that doesn't exist in any known print of BSG, so my feverish little imagination must have been working overtime that night.

I've seen in the TV version, just as the centurion is about to behead Baltar, Imperious leaders voice is heard ordering it stopped saying " he may yet be of some use to us".

In one of the novels, Baltar is lead away to an execution chamber. Lucifer has convinced Imperious leader that Baltar may still be usefull and he is spared that way.
