Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew somebody or know of a site that might have the entire run of these comic strips. It doesn't have to be the full magazine, just the comic pages themselves. Each magazine had a full 2 page comic. The Galactica series started with Issue 43 (10/20/179) and ran thru Issue 42 (10/11/80). For those maybe not familiar with this magazine, each year the magazine number started over at #1. There were usually 49 Issues per year so basically one a week. The entire BSG run lasted for 52 issues and there were 4 full story lines. I have read several reviews that stated they were some of the better BSG comics.

Anyway...I've hit ebay for several years and there are always some issues listed, but hardly close to all that would be needed.

These are the last items I need to complete my BSG comic collection, so any guidance and or assistance you can provided would be greatly appreciated.

(On a side note, I would also be interested in the Buck Rogers run that started right after BSG ended which started w/ Issue 43 (10/18/80) and lasted thru Issue 1 [1/2/82]).

Sorry I havn't gotten to this sooner. I've had an issue with my left hand and can't type worth anything, so it will be slow going for a while, but I'll get the stuff up as soon as I can. Here is the first part.

Uniforms, Part I: Rank Structure

What probably confuses most people who are trying to understand the Classic Galactica rank structure is what seems to be a mixing of navy ranks with those of the other services. The confusion comes, however, in assuming that the ranks were (like Star Trek) based on U.S. or U.K. military ranks. This turns out not to be the case.

The Colonial rank structure is instead based on a classical Greek military structure:

Polemarchos

Strategos

Taxiarchos/ Nauarchos

Syntagmatarkhis/ Trièrarchos

Tagmatarkhis

Lokhagos

Tetrarchès

Hoplomachos

Dilochitès

Lochagos

Phalangites

This translates as:

Senior Commander

Commander

2nd Commander

Colonel

Captain

Lieutenant

2nd Lieutenant

Chief Sergeant

Sergeant

Corporal

Crewman

There are three “branches” or components of the Colonial forces that we see in the Classic series, although there seems to be some overlap between them. This overlap, however is consistent with the “classical” nature of the armed services. These are the “Fleet” component, the “Flight” component, and the “Field” component.

The Fleet component dresses in dark blue uniforms, while the other two dress in the tan uniforms (I will go into detail on those later on).

Rank indicators are a combination of color-coded piping, piping arrangement, and pin/medallion arrangement. There are two rank piping colors for the Fleet uniforms; silver and pale gold. The Flight and Field uniforms have three rank colors; pale gold, bright gold, and bronze.

I'll post the specific rank colors and layouts in my next post.
BSG Honors Thesis: please help!tag:battlestarfanclub.com,2011-02-18:4960814:Topic:110052011-02-18T17:23:24.363ZAl "Old Hickory" Bartrawhttps://battlestarfanclub.com/profile/AlBartraw

My name is Evelyn & I've been a fan of BSG since 2005, when my sister sat me down and showed me the miniseries... love at first watch, let me tell you! Well, haha, guess I don't have to :)

Anyway, I'm a senior at the University of Michigan, writing my undergraduate honors thesis in the Screen Arts and Cultures (AKA Film & Video) department. I'm writing on fans of television franchises, and I'm looking specifically at BSG. My main argument is that fans/fandom are the reason why franchises are created, and that they sustain interest even during long breaks and after the end of the series. So, obviously, BSG is a perfect example of this! I've got a lot of academic arguments to back it up, but I need some help!

I'd love to hear about your experiences as a fan of BSG, both of the new series, of the classic 1978 series, and of the new spin-off series on SyFy. Of course, I will credit you for your responses in my thesis, and will be happy to send you a copy of the finished product before I turn it in so you can make sure I've accurately quoted you :)

If you're interested/willing to help me out, you can post here or email me at BSG7803@gmail.com! If you're comfortable with doing so, could you please include your age and location? I won't be sharing your information with anyone, and you can be anonymous if you like!

Just a couple of questions to get you thinking: Why do you like BSG? What does it mean to be a fan of a television series? What kinds of fan activities do you participate in? Do you read/write fan fiction, create fan art, go to the conventions (if you do, I'm jealous; I can never afford them!), read fanzines, buy merchandise (again, I'm jealous!!)? What other fandoms do you participate in, if any? And lastly, in what ways (if any) do you think BSG has affected your life?

Thank you so much for reading, and I hope to get to know you all! :)

Some time ago, I read that the Cylons were originally designed and built by a dying reptilian race called the Cylons. As much as this race hated humans, they found the human design the most efficient to serve them. Recently, a link appeared on this site about the Cylons of Battlestar Galactica ( http://www.moviematics.com/2010/08/27/the-cylons-on-battlestar-galactica/5572/ ). This post claims the humans designed and built the Cylons. Obviously, this is a contradiction. I can see merits in both storylines.
1 Where the Cylons and the humans had a less than cordial meeting which caused the Cylons to hate the humans so much that they would build a robotic race, complete with series from workers to managers to warriors to serve the dying race and annihilate the humans. In the time that the wars went on, the reptilians died off and the Cylon war machines continued self replicate. (Klingons meet humans theme)
2 Where the human built the Cylons for performing menial and dangerous tasks and the Cylons becoming self aware and rebelling. (Planet of the Apes theme).

As I go over these scenarios, I am more tempted to go with the latter theme since Planet of the Apes was very popular at the time. Galactica 1980: love it or hate it ?tag:battlestarfanclub.com,2010-06-15:4960814:Topic:31832010-06-15T01:28:31.000ZAl "Old Hickory" Bartrawhttps://battlestarfanclub.com/profile/AlBartraw
Galactica 1980 stirred mixed feelings amongst galactica fans. Whats your take on the show ?

For me, as a kid i was just happy to see Galactica in some form, but knew it was not in line with the Galactica i loved.
As I got older and rewatched the series I came to understand what a load of crap it really was and just pretended, as did most books, that it never happened.

many of you may be aware of this but it was news to me. I did not realize several versions of the original Galactica pilot episode ( movie) exist. It makes sense of a few things I was confused on though. I watched the pilot a couple of years ago and was confused because I remebered a couple of scenes that were missing and some scenes seamed shorter. This link explains the different versions.
Who is your favorite classic BSG character ?
for me it would be a toss-up between Starbuck and Apollo but I liked Boomer also.
