Well, we Blackstar crew members call them "grinners!" That's because when were out in the bay fixing things that they can't--they just sit in their dock box playing pyramid and grinning at the work they don't have to do.

Of COURSE!!! 'Cause when I Turbo out of an atmo (which I don't usually do), the hyphendufenator valves are still venting & there's no shaking! All I need is a pitch compensator sensor adjustment! Wow, thanks, those dudes at the Celestra would have been testing for CENTONS before finding the problem!

Just throwing my two cents in here. I've been active duty Air Force for the past 22 years, and maintain "real" vipers--the F-16. So, I'm going to address/answer/clarify a few things you mentioned in the original post.

Question--"Funny, but if this "G-suit" technology is supposed to protect the human body from tremendous G-forces a Viper will face in flight, why doesn't this suit cover a pilot's hands? Maybe human hands are immune to hypergravity?"

Answer--No. For the same reason that our Earth-bound fighter pilots wear G-suits, but nothing but Nomex gloves to cover the hands. A G-suit is designed to force a pilot's blood flow back up to the head. Yes, after pulling Gs for a bit, your fingers get all tingly--but it goes away.

Question--"And what is an enlisted man (Flight Sergeant Jolly) doing piloting a fighter? Shouldn't that kind of thing be left to warrant officers and commissioned officers?"

Answer--The same thing our Earth-bound pilots in WWII and earlier were doing. We had enlisted pilots in WWII. In fact, one of our most famous pilots, Chuck Yeager, started out as a flight sergeant. Yes--there are warrant officer pilots, but only in the Army and Marines. The Air Force got rid of the warrant officer ranks back in the late 80s.

Hope that clears up a little bit of the technical mumbo-jumbo.
