Science Fiction simply means looking at the world as though to answer what if the world had done this or that where would we be. We are constantly trying to envision how something will change the world.
So much of what we value has come from the minds and dreams of people who could only imagine what could be. Take the race to the moon in the 60’s as an example. If John F. Kennedy had not had the vision to send us to the moon by the end of the decade, where would we be? Our space program wouldn’t be as far along in the development of computers and the technology needed to launch rockets into space. We wouldn’t have the tablets or the cell phones if people did not think outside the box.
There are no restraints put on those of us that dream of bettering our world. We can imagine the world anyway we want to and what we need to do to make sure our vision comes to be. When Star Trek came on the scene in the late sixties, we were given a world of sterility and peace at a time when the real world was at war. It gave us hope that we could have a world at peace. From this, we have received many inspirations for things to make our lives easier from the world of science fiction. Take the floppy disc. Technology followed science fiction by developing the disc we use to store data. We have many things in our lives that we take forgranted that have their ties to the world of science fiction.
