NOTE: **THE WEBSITE WILL GO THROUGH SOME CHANGES FOR THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CLUB ORGANIZATION - JULY 1, 2025**
I am sorry I have not posted in a while, life has been busy recently.
The topic for this week is:
The original series was mostly militaristic themed, with the reimagined series it was decided to include the religion as a major theme throughout the entire series. How do you feel about religion playing such a big part of the series? Do you think it should not have been included?
Me personally I like the religious theme being added. The way it was included during the entire series from President Rosalyn, to the cylons (one true god), Baltar's being seen as a chosen one, and of course my favorite as Starbuck being the harbinger. I think the writers were able to keep a good balance of militaristic and religious themes throughout the series.
Let me hear your thoughts!

Good topic! I liked that they added the religious theme.
I especially liked that it was fictional, as it was based on a mix myths and ancient religions and elements of many religions that are in the world now. I think I wouldn't have liked it if they had picked an actual current religion because it would exclude many people who don't practice or agree with whatever religion they decided to favor. I think BSG has always been very inclusive and appeals to many different people of different demographics, which is really great!
With the bleakness of the show overall and the fairly dark themes and events, the religion element gave them hope and the faith they needed to keep going against all odds. Plus something to keep the plot moving forward and take the show through interesting storylines.
I agree that there was a good balance as well, it wasn't all about religion, or all about the military for that matter, just many pieces of the puzzle that fit together to make a great show.

At first when I saw that the show was taking on a religious tone, I wasn't sure if it would work. After watching the entire series, I saw that it had worked out just fine. The reason I think it did was because the ahow did a good job of keeping the military, government, and religious aspects of the show in balance...playing off each other and with the occasional conflict between the three.
Also, I would have loved to have seen homage to the original series' attempt at a religious play, War of the Gods. Maybe an all out story arc with Count Iblis or at least a mention. What would have blown up the ending of the series for me is if when Apollo and Starbuck have their last conversation,, Apollo turns back to see her surrounded by a halo of light and her outfit has turned solid white, just like the pilots in the original series when they were on board the light ship.
